Dried mealworms are a great source of protein for wild birds and offer considerably less waste than live mealworms with the benefit of a longer shelf life. Dried mealworms can be fed all year round.

Mealworms are a fantastic feed for wild birds, chickens and hedgehogs as well as many other animals. They are protein rich and one of the most popular feeds, making them an irresistible treat.

Nearly every species of wild bird will huddle around your bird feeder for some mealworms, but they are especially loved by Robins, Song Thrushes, Sparrows, Bluebirds and Blackbirds.

Mealworms can be fed all year round and can be fed in their dried form or rehydrated with a little water.  It is especially helpful to rehydrate your mealworms during the breeding season to help birds feed their chicks.

Mealworms are easy to feed, you just put them somewhere that birds can easily perch, and they create far less mess than seed mixes, peanuts or even sunflower seeds.

Remember if you are going to feed hedgehogs you need to give them somewhere safe and secure to feed and sleep, away from the reach of predators. Search Google for how to make a ‘hedgehog house’.
