Rat
Rats make intelligent and friendly pets, but they do require lots of attention and care. Pet rats live, on average, for around two and a half years. They need lots of daily social interaction, as well as around an hour per day of exercise outside the cage.
Rats are also very social animals, so it’s important to home a pair or a group of the same sex together. Nocturnal animals, they’re more likely to be alert and awake at night – so most rat owners don’t keep their rats in the bedroom!
If you want to keep pet rats, it’s important to prepare a suitable cage with appropriate bedding, a nest box, and food. They eat a varied diet including grains, vegetables and dry protein sources.
You must also remember to clean out the cage regularly to keep them clean and reduce lingering smells.
